In a world where watching a video often equals experience, it can be challenging to help staff understand what a summer at your camp will look and feel like. Waiting for staff training feels inadequate for effective staff preparation. We’ll cover communication and teaching techniques, starting with setting clear expectations during interviews, fostering a supportive training environment, daily support, and supervisory strategies.

These aren’t signs of a “bad staff,” but a need for more diverse conflict resolution skills. Learn about the 5 conflict-resolution styles, and explore the link between conflict avoidance and help-seeking. Gain tips to help summer staff embrace discomfort, seek support, and open up dialog. Engage in conversation to explore the ‘why’ and what you can do to help.
